Vote, Vote, Vote!
If you’ve already voted, you can probably skip this post — or simply share it with your colleagues.
And if you think reminding people to vote is too political in one direction or the other, I hate to say it, but you’re part of the problem.
It’s American to vote (and to encourage those around you to vote, even if they have differing views). Voter suppression is what’s un-American.
At the risk of sounding like an eighth-grade history teacher, voting really is our civic duty — and it affects so much!
The Most Important Election of Our Lives (Again)
We are less than one week away from what seems like the most important election of our lives. I know we’re told that every four years, but I have a feeling this time, it’s true.
Sadly, millions of eligible voters forfeit that privilege — that responsibility — each year. I simply can’t understand why.
Are you one of the people who will forfeit their right to vote? Are you still on the fence about taking the time to vote? Or are you undecided?
Whatever the case, you owe it to yourself (and to your nonprofit) to make sure your voice is heard. And if you think the results of this election won’t impact you, then you’re simply not paying attention.
Vote Like Your Nonprofit Depends On It
Almost all the nonprofit organizations we serve will be impacted by the results of this election for decades to come. Most notably, those of you who work for causes involving:
- Justice and equity
- Preserving the environment
- Immigrant rights and amnesty
- Healthcare
- A woman’s right to choose
- Gun safety
All of these issues will be unequivocally impacted by the results of this election. There are many others, too.
Vote now (if you can)…
Don’t wait until Election Day. If you can possibly vote early, go out and do so today. The pandemic makes this particular election more prone to unpredictability. So vote early to ensure your vote is counted. Don’t wait until the last minute.
The future of your nonprofit, as well as you and your loved ones, will most definitely be impacted by the results of this election… for better, or for worse.
So vote like your nonprofit depends on it. Vote like your life depends on it. With monumental challenges like healthcare and climate change on the ballot, in so many ways, it does.

Thank you for this post. You made my day (and probably my week).

Parts of this election will definitely affect our organization.

Thank you, Amy. I’m actually voting in person, since it feels more deliberate to me to place my ballot in the voting machine myself, but whatever way we vote – JUST VOTE!
Patrick Espinoza says
This is a joke right? Your non-profit depends on voting for Joe Biden? (That’s not what you said, but it is what you meant). If you’re based in a big city, your non-profit depends on voting for someone who won’t let looters destroy your office and your work. If your non-profit serves women, your non-profit depends on voting for someone who won’t let 400,000 baby girls get aborted each year.

Such an important message. I’m glad you shared it with your colleagues and followers. So much is on the line for the non profit sector and the country.

Thank you for this post, Amy, and speaking out. Yes, vote like your life/organization depends on it. Because it does.
